Tooth extraction is a procedure in which a dentist gently removes a tooth that can no longer be saved with conventional treatment — whether due to extensive decay, a fractured root, advanced gum disease or infection. At BioDent Clinic, every extraction is preceded by a clinical examination and, if necessary, an X-ray or 3D CT scan, allowing us to accurately assess the condition of the tooth, root and surrounding bone. This enables us to choose the gentlest technique and prevent complications. We distinguish between simple extraction (of an easily accessible tooth) and surgical extraction (in cases of a fractured root or a less accessible tooth), which requires a more precise approach.
We recommend extraction if a tooth is so severely damaged by [tooth decay], fractured or loosened due to [gum disease] that it cannot be saved with a filling, crown or other treatment. Extraction may also be necessary for infected teeth when there is a risk of the infection spreading, or for orthodontic reasons when space needs to be created to align the teeth.

We perform tooth extractions under local anesthesia, so the procedure itself is painless. For anxious patients, we offer additional options to help them relax. Before the procedure, we always explain how long the anesthesia will last and what to expect once it wears off.
Before the procedure, we recommend eating beforehand, informing us about any medications you take and not smoking on the day of the procedure. After an extraction, it is important not to rinse your mouth vigorously, drink through a straw or smoke during the first 24 hours — this helps prevent so-called dry socket. We recommend cooling the treatment area, eating soft foods and following the doctor’s instructions regarding medication. The space left by the extracted tooth should ideally be restored as soon as possible with an implant, bridge or denture to prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting.
Thanks to local anesthesia, the procedure itself is painless. Mild sensitivity after the anesthesia wears off is normal and can usually be managed with standard painkillers.
